It may be hard to believe, but it is true. Ash Wednesday is February 22. Our Ash Wednesday worship this year will be our active service to those who come by to receive ashes during Ashes-to-Go from 7am-7pm. A separate worship service will not take place in the evening. Instead, we invite you—our Elders, Deacons, and every participant of our congregation—to worship through service to our community in the following ways: hold signs, direct traffic, administer ashes, help pass out pamphlets/gift bags, and share God’s love.
On Sunday, February 12 we also invite your participation in our Ashes-to-Go Prep Party. Following worship, we will offer training for Ashes-to-Go volunteers. We will also assemble the give-away bags and prepare little bags of ashes for those who will take them home to administer to loved ones.
New this year, we will offer Blessings-to-Go to the community each Wednesday during Lent. Like Ash Wednesday, we will set up a station in the parking lot. On these days, though, we will offer a warm blessing and a beverage (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water). People will be able to come sit or drive by. We will open the station three times a day—morning, noon, and evening. Volunteers (4 each session) will help with traffic, serving a beverage, and offering a blessing and prayer when requested. Blessings-to-Go will take place March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5 from 7-9am, 11am-1pm, and 5-7pm.
Sign-up sheets for these opportunities will be available this Sunday. You can also let us know when you can help by calling or emailing the church office. If you have questions, please contact a ministry planning team member: Janis Brown, Lori Bryant, Paul DeArman, Susan Harris, or Pastor Ailsa.
Blessings,
